Participation Guidelines & Liability Release
Green River Pottery participation guidelines
Fall 2024
Welcome to the studio! We are glad you are signing up for a pottery class, or for independent work in our ‘A3’ studio. Please read our participation guidelines. By purchasing a class registration or studio time, you are giving your explicit acknowledgement that you have read, understand, and agree to these guidelines. Green River Pottery reserves the right to expel anybody at any time who we feel is not making a good faith effort to follow them.
The guidelines will be updated occasionally - please check them over every month or two to review changes.
1 Our studio is small, and designed more for teaching & learning than for production. If you have a well-developed studio practice, or mostly need space & equipment rental, a larger studio with a quicker kiln turnaround may be a better fit. Santa Fe has many options.
2 Some studio users have commented that their time at Green River is the only time of their week to be ‘off duty,’ to keep to themselves & concentrate on creative work. We want the workspace to be an oasis. Please mostly concentrate on your own work rather than lengthy conversation. (Weekly group classes are a bit of an exception to this).
3 Plan ahead for your worktime. If you are in a class of course no signup is necessary when arriving at the studio. It is also fine to drop by briefly without signing up to check on your work & see if the kiln has been unloaded, etc. Outside of that, signup on the worktime calendar is necessary. Please keep attention to your arrival & departure time. Chronic early arrival or late departure, or arriving to work without first signing up on the calendar, is unfair to others & a violation of our guidelines.
4 No pets please.
5 Please do not touch other peoples' work if they’re not around.
6 If you'd like to bring a friend or family member by the studio, great - please check ahead of time & wait for a response from Theo (might take a day or two) before proceeding.
7 The studio is not able to store work when you’re away or after your class ends. Always fine to sign up a couple extra times after your 8-week class to finish your glazing. Please communicate with us about your unfinished work! We dislike having to discard pots, tools, aprons, notebooks, jars of underglaze, left on shelves when you depart without updating us.
8 In cases when you’ll be absent from your class, fine to email your teacher, as this helps with our planning, though it is not required. We do not offer makeup sessions for missed weekly classes.
9 Self reliance & respect for privacy are the core values that guide our studio. Welcoming others, and their differences, being adaptable, modulating what you’re doing so you can work with and around others, using common sense, are all virtues we greatly appreciate. We are fortunate to have the group of studio users involved that we have, and we treasure our time in the studio, and each other, and the common pursuit - each in our own way - of beauty in ceramics.
